SeaKeepers at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025
Chichester, West Sussex
July 10 - 13, 2025
Overview
From July 10-13, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society was invited to present at the iconic 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed (FOS), as part of The Blue Dot within the Future Lab. This was a frontier science showcase, which explored technology for a better world, through mapping deep space, exploring the depths of the ocean, and demonstrating the very latest uses of AI and robotics.
SeaKeepers exhibited alongside partners The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project and Schmidt Ocean Institute within a co-branded space focusing on marine exploration, global seabed mapping and ocean research. The highlight of the space was the Seabed 2030 BathySphere, an immersive experience mapping the ocean floor. It was a huge attraction throughout the four days and encouraged members of the public to learn more about the importance of technology in ocean conservation.
The first day of the festival welcomed more than 1,000 Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) students to learn more about ocean research and conservation. By sharing stories and encouraging curiosity, SeaKeepers and their partners inspired the next generation to become ocean stewards and better protect the marine environment. To conclude this impactful festival, SeaKeepers presented during the live panel “Hidden Beneath the Waves” alongside Schmidt Ocean Institute and Seabed 2030. SeaKeepers highlighted the importance of the DISCOVERY programme in advancing ocean science and, together with their partners, demonstrated that collaborative efforts are vital for ocean exploration.
During the festival, Mike Golding OBE visited The Blue Dot and shared the story of his 16-month journey around the world as a SeaKeepers DISCOVERY Vessel. Throughout the voyage, the crew onboard DV Traverse collected valuable ocean data as SeaKeepers’ Citizen Scientists, educated local communities about how boaters can help to improve ocean health, and hosted researchers who needed access to local waters to study various species and habitats. The Golding's Voyage truly demonstrated how private vessels can play a hands-on role in advancing ocean science and support groundbreaking research.
FOS Future Lab gave SeaKeepers a high visibility platform to share their mission, highlight their partnerships and engage with new audiences. Through Future Lab’s reach and media coverage from outlets like the BBC, SeaKeepers was able to invite the wider community to learn more about our oceans and the future of our planet.
The International Seakeepers Society would like to thank Goodwood Festival of Speed, Seabed 2030 and Schmidt Ocean Institute for the remarkable opportunity to raise awareness for ocean science and marine conservation during this international event.
