Nice, France
June 9 - 13, 2025
Overview
SeaKeepers attended the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) in Nice, France, from June 9–13, 2025, to strengthen partnerships and engage in global dialogue on marine conservation and scientific collaboration. Represented by Science Liaison Katie Sheahan and Director of International Relations Gill Rodrigues, SeaKeepers participated in panels, networking events, and partner meetings with leading organizations such as KAUST, Seabed 2030, Schmidt Ocean Institute, and Oceano Azul. Highlights included Katie’s panel presentation on the power of philanthropy in oceanographic research, a private tour of OceanXplorer, and discussions around expedition collaboration and data-sharing initiatives. UNOC offered critical insight into global progress on ocean governance, including the near-ratification of the High Seas Treaty and global pledges to protect coral reefs and reduce plastic pollution. Next steps include deepening collaborations, exploring new expedition opportunities, and supporting UNESCO’s global Ocean Literacy initiative.
