SeaKeepers Receives Proclamation From City of Miami

Miami, Florida

Overview

On September 14th, 2023, The International SeaKeepers Society received an official Proclamation from the City of Miami for our considerable efforts in improving local ecosystem health through community involvement. The City of Miami chose to honor our organization after a local community member and previous volunteer with SeaKeepers at our bi-monthly coastal cleanups recommended us to be recognized. Since our inception in 1998, SeaKeepers and our global network of DISCOVERY vessels and volunteers have helped to create accessible spaces for marine research and education. Since our programming expansion in 2019, our global network has helped us to remove more than 20,000 lbs of debris from marine and coastal environments, much of which was prevented from further harming delicate marine life vital to our coastal health. Thank you to Mayor Francis Suarez and Commissioner Sabina Covo for this opportunity, we are honored to be recognized by the City of Miami and thrilled to have the opportunity to serve our local community as well as global coastal communities through our work. We look forward to continuing our local action, education, and marine research activities through the strengthening of partnerships with community members and organizations throughout Miami-Dade and beyond.
