SeaKeepers South Pacific Brings Ocean Conservation to the Miss Universe Fiji Pageant

Pacific Harbour, Fiji
August 27- September 1, 2024

Overview

From the 27th of August to the 1st of September, Melissa White, Director of the South Pacific for the International SeaKeepers Society, participated in the Miss Universe Fiji Pageant, bringing a focus on environmental awareness and charity to the event. At The Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbour, Fiji, Melissa led an outdoor classroom by the water’s edge, where she engaged the contestants in discussions on local Fijian ecology, global conservation challenges, and water quality testing. The session evolved into a dynamic conversation covering key environmental topics such as marine debris, the impact of sunscreen on coral reefs, overfishing, and climate change. Each contestant received a sustainability kit designed to inspire and support their journey toward becoming dedicated ocean stewards.

SeaKeepers is now collaborating with several of the top 10 contestants, helping them raise awareness and bring SeaKeepers programs to their communities. These young women are set to become passionate SeaKeepers ambassadors, inspiring further conservation efforts in their regions.
