Overview
On January 23rd, 2024, The International SeaKeepers Society's Science Liaison, Katie Sheahan, attended the Smithsonian's Summit on Ocean Biodiversity in Washington, D.C. This event was held at the National Museum of Natural History and brought together the country's leading ocean advocates for discussions about the fate of marine biodiversity. This day-long gathering highlighted the decreasing biodiversity within our oceans and how each industry plays a role in the protection of our marine life. There was also an emphasis on involving local and indigenous knowledge in research, policy, and decision making, ensuring there is room at the table for everyone.
