The Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis 2024
Bimini, Bahamas
June 20 - 23, 2024
Overview
From June 20th - 23rd, 2024, The International SeaKeepers Society participated in the Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis from Bimini, Bahamas to Lake Worth, Florida. The Crossing is an annual event organized and executed by Piper's Angels, a non-profit whose mission is to provide the most socially innovative solutions to the cystic fibrosis community.
In addition to having five paddlers as part of Team SeaKeepers, we also had DISCOVERY Yacht's Surface Interval, Gracie, and Sea Tunes participate at the event as support vessels for paddlers and to provide transportation for Piper's Angels core team to and from Bimini.
For this year's event, SeaKeepers' Board Member Mark Luther arranged a partnership with NOAA to monitor weather conditions for the crossing. Fortunately, NOAA was able to detect some severe thunderstorms prior to the paddlers departing which ultimately delayed the event several days. SeaKeepers' team was not able to participate in the crossing from Bimini, Bahamas to Lake Worth, FL due to the delay but, we were happy to have facilitated this relationship to add to the safety of all vessels and paddlers involved. We also utilized the days leading up to the main event to network with vessel owners, share SeaKeepers' mission with event attendees, and recruit new DISCOVERY Yachts.
