World Ocean Day Cleanup 2023

Miami, Florida
June 3, 2023

Overview

On Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, The International SeaKeepers Society co-hosted a cleanup with our friends from Clean Miami Beach as part of the annual World Ocean Day celebration hosted by Blue Scholars Initiative. Among other activities, that morning, SeaKeepers and Clean Miami Beach saw 104 volunteers come out to help us clean the beach between 22nd and 23rd Street on South Beach, and collected 431 pounds of trash! South Beach can be deceivingly clean, but our volunteers did an incredible job making sure it really was. We were also visited by the City of Miami Beach’s Commissioner Alex Fernandez, who offered a few words at the end of the cleanup and sorting. Some of the most prevalent items found were bottle caps, plastic straws, cans, plastic bottles, and plastic bags. We’re so grateful to have had such an incredible cleanup and look forward to seeing you all next year!
