Warwick, RI USA – August 6, 2024 – FarSounder has released their CSB Data Explorer. This web-based platform enables contributors of CSB (crowdsourced bathymetry) data to easily see where they’ve made contributions and gauge their support of the CSB community. This tool provides a visualization of where your vessel or vessels are making a difference in the daunting task of mapping the world’s oceans.
The CSB Data Explorer is a simple to use dashboard enabling users to view their contributions and monitor statistics highlighting the value of their individual contributions. This not only allows contributors to better understand where and how much they have donated, but it also facilitates the recruitment of other contributors via streamlined functionality to share their stats on social media. Additionally, in an effort to provide additional motivation through gamification, contributors can compare their contributions to the overall FarSounder fleet’s contributions and view the entire International Hydrographic Organization’s (IHO) CSB database on top of a global map.
Matthew Zimmerman, CEO of FarSounder:
"FarSounder has been a conduit for our customers to contribute bathymetric data to global mapping initiatives for more than six years. This dashboard was created as a result of our recent expansion of customers' anonymous donations with the latest software’s ability to upload gathered data directly to the cloud."
The CSB Data Explorer.has been created in partnership with the International SeaKeepers Society, the IHO, and The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project. These organizations all have a high level of commitment to ocean mapping and a continual quest to expand knowledge of the world’s oceans.
Jamie McMichael-Phillips, Seabed 2030 Project Director:
“CSB initiatives bring us significantly closer to our goal of achieving a complete map of the ocean floor, which is beneficial for a whole host of reasons, including empowering the world to make policy decisions, manage the ocean sustainably and undertake scientific research. Every contribution, no matter how small, is invaluable in bringing us one step closer to a fully mapped seabed.”
Gill Rodrigues, Director of International Partnerships:
“SeaKeepers is excited for FarSounder’s introduction of the CSB Data Explorer, a game-changer in the realm of ocean mapping. This platform empowers contributors to see the real-world impact of their data, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose in our quest to understand and protect our oceans. The collaboration with FarSounder, the IHO, and Seabed 2030 exemplifies our commitment to leveraging innovative tools for oceanographic research and conservation.”
About FarSounder
At FarSounder, we believe in pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the exploration of the world’s oceans and waterways. We do this by developing innovative products that do more than just help vessels get safely from point A to point B. We make a difference by being environmentally conscious by creating products that reduce the impact on the ecosystem.
For over 20 years, we have dedicated ourselves to tackling new ideas and developing 3D Forward Looking Navigation Sonar technology (3D FLS). Our unique patented technology paints a clear picture of what lies ahead underwater and along the bottom, reducing the likelihood of collisions, which in turn prevents costly damage to property, the environment, and marine and human lives alike.
Our navigation systems are globally recognized. The Argos 1000, Argos 500, and Argos 350 are able to provide customers with a whole suite of sophisticated navigation capabilities of interest to many types of vessels. Wherever you decide to go, FarSounder will help get you there safely.

About The International SeaKeepers Society
The International SeaKeepers Society is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that facilitates oceanographic research, conservation, and education through direct involvement with the yachting community. Providing educational resources and hands-on marine science experiences to students is a primary focus for ensuring the wellbeing of our planet. SeaKeepers enables the yachting community to take full advantage of their unique potential to advance marine sciences and raise awareness about global ocean issues.
Founded in Monaco in 1998, The International SeaKeepers Society has been supporting ocean conservation through direct involvement with the yachting community for twenty-five years. What started as a data collection program aboard select luxury yachts, has evolved to engage thousands of participants annually with at-sea and coastal programming. Today SeaKeepers’ mission is focused on the DISCOVERY Yacht Program which is comprised of Scientist-Led Expeditions, Citizen Science, Educational Outreach, and Community Engagement.
SeaKeepers is a catalyst working with governments, scientists, institutions, and other marine organizations to further its mission and support sensible, achievable marine protection and restoration. Activities take place globally through the efforts of headquarters based in the United States with offices located on the east and west coast, and international representation in Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the South Pacific.

About The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project
The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project is a collaborative project between The Nippon Foundation and GEBCO. The Seabed 2030 Project, launched at the United Nations Ocean Conference in 2017 by Chairman Sasakawa of The Nippon Foundation, coordinates and oversees the sourcing and compilation of bathymetric data from different parts of the world’s ocean through its five centres into the freely-available GEBCO Grid. Four Regional Centres cover the Southern Ocean, the Arctic and North Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, and the South and West Pacific Ocean. These feed data products into the Global Data Centre. The IHO Data Center for Digital Bathymetry (DCDB) serves as the long-term archive for Seabed 2030. Find out more about the project and how to get involved.
